Our perceptions of a traditional still life or a vase of flowers is challenged as the viewer is forced to observe and read the light, texture, tone and lines refracted through glass and turned upside down. We learn to let go of our preconceived notions and see the subject matter through the eyes of the artist – intimate details and nuances of fleeting colour, light and shadow flickering through the refractions of water and then glass, to form the sepals and petals of a spider chrysanthemum in full bloom.
